How to Start Using Personal Coaches

During a conversation the other day, I was asked what I do for a living. Well besides being in the military I told the individual that I’m also a personal development coach/consultant. The chuckle and laughter that ensued after really drew my attention, so I asked, frankly of course…What?
The individual then turned to me and said; “your like one of those people that call themselves a “life coach” huh? And in my response I replied no…personal development
I get it, really I do. The community of people in the field of self-help, and with coaching is on the rise, who knows what or where the profession is going, however there is a significant difference between the two coaching “niches” and communities.
Life coach: a person who counsels and encourages clients on matters having to do with careers or personal challenges

You see as a life coach, there is something that sticks out when you say it, LIFE. This is where the main difference comes into play. You would request a life coach if you want to up your game, and improve your life circumstances. Things like improving your relationships, and “how to” manage money and time, etc. In this one would be creating and building a new paradigm or framework for overhauling your…LIFE. This is it. The life coach helps in reviewing every angle, and part of your life, while together, determining next steps to get the most out of what you are looking to accomplish…in LIFE.
Personal Development Coach: One who helps improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitate employability, enhance quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations.

In contrast, a personal development coach does not just target life challenges and help in those areas, but also if you feel not that you can’t manage areas of your life, or you have untapped or undiscovered talents, gifts, desires, and passions within you, this is where a personal development coach steps in to support. You may be handling life’s challenges well, as in, work, home life, financially, etc. but you know there is more. With a personal development coach, you can uncover new areas for personal growth and connection with the world around you by, ensuring your understanding of individual strengths and weaknesses, not just within your personal life, but also professionally. This then can lead yo greater fulfillment overall with both arenas.

Here are a few benefits of personal development

1. Self-Awareness — Being self-aware you can find the areas which need improvement and build on your strengths
2. Sense of Direction — understanding where you want to go, can help shift you rfocus from quantity to quality, and even do more, better.
3. Improve focus and become effective — Less distractions will create a platform to perform more effective. Additional you will also be able to see that you don’t need to be perfect since you will be constantly improving
4. Motivated — you will be enable and have greater motivation because you will be taking the small steps to reach the bigger goal
5. Greater Resilience — You are not just improving your life in the moment of good, but also growing and developing through challenges and trials as well.
6. Better Relationships — you will be able to give more focused time and energy to the individuals within your life, both at work and at home.

If you are stuck and looking to find a way to break through, find the right coach and fit for you, but first do you research. You see, I am certified in professional coaching, as well as certified in mediation, conflict resolution, and equal opportunity, and I also have experience to back it up. The challenges that I have seen, faced, and dealt with from outside has given me the ability to walk many though areas of personal and professional obstacles others have not; however, I have also personally faced and overcome many of my challenges and developed a strong sense of resiliency and adversity to be able to relate and be empathetic, to others.

If you are looking to be encouraged on areas of careers or personal challenges, use a life coach. However, if you are looking to improve on areas of self-awareness and talents (this is the biggest area in my opinion), enhance quality of life, and develop you dreams into reality, use a personal development coach.
